With the support of funding from the Department of Primary Industries and Regions and the Australian Governments under the National Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, including the Local Economic Recovery Program we are offering free bee biosecurity training.
This free training provides an opportunity for commercial and recreational beekeepers to build capability and capacity in hive disease and pest management.
On completion of the course, participants will be able to demonstrate core competencies in checking and inspecting honeybee colonies, identifying possible pest diseases and poor health, undertake field diagnosis procedures, implement appropriate biosecurity and treatment measures and monitor treatments and maintain suitable records of inspection. The training will focus specifically on varroa and AFB treatment and management as well as other bee pests and disease.
Participants will have the option to complete the assessments to attain the following Nationally Recognised Competencies from the Certificate III in Beekeeping;
AHCBEK313 Manage pest and disease within a honey bee colony
AHCBIO303 Apply biosecurity measures
This project is being delivered In partnership with the Department of Primary Industries and Regions. It is jointly funded by the South Australian and Australian Governments under the National Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, including the Local Economic Recovery Program.
Priority enrolment will be given to beekeepers from KI and the Adelaide Hills that were impacted by the 2019/2020 bushfires.

Session 3: May 14th to 15th Kangaroo Island

Queen Breeding (AHCBEK409 - Rear queen bees)
This nationally accredited course provides experienced beekeepers with the knowledge and skill to rear queen bees through hive manipulation. The course is run over two weekends and focuses on hive preparation, trait selection, grafting, and introducing new queens into hives.
Location: Ashton Oval and various apiary sites in the Adelaide Hills

Saturday 19th November 9am to 5pm
Saturday 26th November 9am to 4pm
Course cost is $650 (includes enrolment fee $132 including GST and tuition fee of $518 GST free)
